GAS App FAQs

General


What does the GAS App do?


The GAS App enables customers to be able to purchase fuel in a contactless manner. Don't worry, you'll still get to see the great offers available in-store, as they'll be highlighted in the app. You can use the app to gift and/or receive Fuel Shout! credit and track all your GAS App purchases. You can also use the app to scan your Instant Discounts card if you prefer to pay using cash or eftpos card.


Who can get the app?

GAS App is available on the New Zealand Apple App or Google Play Store.


Do I have to pay for the app?

No! GAS App is free to download for customers based in New Zealand, from the Apple App or Google Play Store.


Minimum operating systems required to support the app:


- iOS devices need to be on iOS 11.0 or later

- Android devices need to be on Android 5.0 or later


Why should I enable notifications from GAS App?

Push notifications will ensure that you're the first to know about any GAS discount offers particularly GAS Instant Discounts special discount offer days.


Registration


How does it work?

It's easy as! Download the app and follow the instructions — all GAS needs is your name, mobile phone number and email address. You have the option to add your birthdate, if you fancy a cheeky little birthday discount offer. You'll also need to agree to the terms of use and verify your account.


If you have an Instant Discounts loyalty number, we'll make sure it is displayed within the app or we'll take care of it by automatically giving you an Instant Discounts loyalty card number - so you'll never miss a discount again!.


Why do I receive a text code every time I want to open the GAS App?

This is an extra layer of protection for users. Do not, under any circumstances, share the text code with anyone as it designed for use on your device only.


Do I have to link a payment card to use the app?

If you want to use the Pay-in-Car functionality, yes, the app does require a payment card to use the app.


However, if you have only downloaded the app in order to scan your Instant Discounts card number in-store, you do not need to store a payment card in the app.


Can I load more than one payment method?

Yes, you can load up to 3 different payment cards. All can be given a nickname, to avoid any confusion and one can be set as the default payment card. For every transaction, you can choose to use one of your payment cards and/or Fuel Shout! credit, if you have any available.


Are my card details secure?

Yes, your card details are secured with our PCI-DDI compliant payment gateway provider, Windcave. We use secure tokenisation to link your card to the app. Your full card number is never held within the app or visible to GAS.


How can I change my profile details?

Go to the main menu and select 'My Account', from there you can edit your name and email address. You cannot alter your birthdate or mobile number once it has been added initially. If you have entered your birthdate incorrectly, click on the ‘Help’ section to ask for assistance to have it changed. If you change your mobile number, you will need to set up another account.


I want to remove the app. How do I do this?

We'll be sad to see you go! However, we understand circumstances can change. Simply delete the account from the My Account menu, and then delete the app from your device. If you would like us to remove you from its database, click on the Help section of the app, or email info@gas.kiwi


Instant Discounts


I don't have an Instant Discounts card. How can I get a discount?

Don’t worry, as soon as you’ve downloaded the GAS App and completed registration, an Instant Discounts card number will be assigned to your profile! When you use the Pay-in-Car functionality in the app, discounts will be automatically applied to every qualifying transactions (minimum $40, up to 50L). You can also go in-store to pay for your fuel and scan your card number at the counter, just click on the ‘Scan In Store’ button on the home screen. The latter option is helpful for those customers wanting to pay with cash or use their eftpos card.


How will I know what discount is available to me today?

Go to the home screen of the app, and the discount offer of the day will be visible to you. We may occasionally send you advance notice of upcoming special discounts too!


I already have an Instant Discounts card, but want to download the app.

No problem, when you download and register your details in the app, your card number will be automatically added to your profile.


Can I accumulate Instant Discounts?

No, the GAS Instant Discounts loyalty programme instantly redeems discounts on all petrol or fuel purchases over $40, up to 50 litres.


Can I link my Instant Discounts card with another user?

No, there is no need to do this. All discounts earned will be instantly redeemed at the time of

purchase. You cannot transfer your earned discount to another user for this reason. Other users can easily set up a profile of their own and enjoy discounts too!


Making a purchase


How can I make a fuel purchase using my mobile phone when I can't use my device on the

forecourt?

When you pull up at the pump and stop your engine, you can use the Pay-in-Car functionality in your car, or you can use it in-store. Complete the transaction and put your phone away. You then have 3 minutes to start pumping the fuel into your car.


How do I purchase fuel using the GAS App?

We've made it super simple.

1. Once on a participating GAS forecourt, park at your chosen pump and select the orange button 'Pay in car' at the bottom of the home screen in the app.

2. Select the pump number, fuel grade and amount.

3. If you have purchased more than $40 of petrol or diesel, your Instant Discount will be

automatically to the transaction (up to 50 Litres).

4. Leave your phone in the car, fuel up and hang up the nozzle. Done and dusted!


How much fuel does the 'Fill' option allow?

The maximum amount of fuel that can be delivered is $250. Your bank will place a temporary hold on your funds to complete this transaction. If you wish to purchase more than $250 of fuel, select CUSTOM AMOUNT and enter an amount, up to $999.


Can I change my fuel purchase Amount once entered?

No, you will need to go back to the home screen and start the Pay in Car process again. Note, if you have selected your payment card in the pay-in-car process, a temporary hold of funds for the amount selected will be placed on your payment card.


How long does it take for my bank to give back any money pre-authorised that I didn't use?

In most instances, it clears almost immediately after completing your fill. However, it can take up to 7 working days to clear. To avoid having this hold on your funds enter a pre-selected or custom fill amount. See above.


I asked for more fuel than what was pumped into my car. Why is that?

If your tank was partially full, you may not have been able to get the amount of fuel requested into your tank. Don't worry, you'll only be charged for the actual amount of fuel pumped.


Where do I find my transaction history?

Go to the main menu and select My GAS transactions and all your previous transactions are listed in date order. To view more detail, click on the transaction you want to view.


I need a receipt with my purchase. How do I get one?

All receipts are saved under 'My GAS transactions', you can click on the link within the transaction to email it to a nominated email address. To automatically email all future receipts, go to the Main Menu, Manage Notifications and turn on Transactional Notifications.


Can I purchase anything other than fuel through GAS App?

No, you can purchase fuel only. That said, make sure you check out the GAS Offers section in the app to see what in-store offers the GAS service station you are visiting has for you!


Fuel Shout!


What is Fuel Shout!?

Fuel Shout! credit can be spent on your next purchase with the GAS App. There are two ways to receive the credit:


1. As a gift from friends, family or colleagues, when they purchase Fuel Shout! credit for you as

an e-gift card. You can purchase, gift and redeem these e-gift cards, all within the GAS app.


2. As a gift from GAS, this will be a reward or prize for use when you purchase fuel at a

participating GAS service station. You can find the balance of your Fuel Shout! credit in the main menu under 'Fuel Shout!'


How do I buy Fuel Shout! credit to gift to others?

Go to the main menu and click on Fuel Shout!, follow the screen prompts to gift credit. You'll need to know the recipient's mobile number; you can send a message and choose how much credit you would like to gift. Payment for the credit is taken from your linked payment card and can only be gifted to a New Zealand mobile number.


Do I need to link a payment card to make a purchase using my gifted Fuel Shout! credit?

Yes, you need to save a payment card before using Fuel Shout! to make a purchase. You may use Fuel Shout! credit as a sole form of payment to make a purchase thereafter.


Note, when making a purchase through the app, your default payment card will have a pre-

authorisation hold placed on it. Once the transaction has completed using Fuel Shout! credit the hold will be released by your bank.


When does my Fuel Shout! credit expire?

Any Fuel Shout! credit available to you is valid for one year from the date of gifting (including from GAS), this may mean you have part of your balance expiring at different times. To check the expiry date of any Fuel Shout! credit, check the date in which you were gifted credit. The Fuel Shout! will expire one year from the gifting date.


If I gift Fuel Shout! credit to someone, how will they know?

When you gift Fuel Shout! credit, the lucky recipient will receive a text message on their device, which will include a message from you. If the recipient already has the GAS App downloaded on their device, the gifted Fuel Shout! will appear in their GAS App ‘wallet’. If they do not have the GAS App downloaded yet, the recipient is instructed to go to the GAS website (www.gas.kiwi/gas-app) within the text. As soon as they register, the Fuel Shout! credit will appear in their wallet.
